Dear Subscribers,

Greetings.

Today! Catch A Rising Star begins!

The show runs Sept 1st-30th and the opening reception is on September 6th. If you are in the Fredericksburg area, hope you can check it out. I'm very happy with this group of paintings.

Also, the Waterfront group show at STUDIO Gallery begins on Wednesday the 4th, with the opening reception on Sunday the 8th.

Wow, thanks everybody. Due to your support, my podcast Impast Logs got the top spot on New & Noteworthy in the visual arts section of the iTunes store:

Temporary egoic thrills aside, it's very rewarding that some of you are finding it interesting and that I get to share what I've learned with other artists. And thanks for your ratings and reviews, those really help out with visibility in iTunes.

As you've probably noticed if you are subscribed to the show, the second episode is out! The Q&A segment gets specific with some oil painting stuff and the main topic is more of a general issue for all creative peoples.

New still life.
The setup:

What I found interesting about this was the placement of light. The light is behind the objects, and really close (as you can see from the radiating cast shadows).

Next stage: If you look closely you'll noticed that I corrected the alignment of the ellipse between the stage above and the stage below. The axis of the ellipse should not be completely vertical, because the center axis of the urn is not completely horizontal. It is a subtle but very significant change. Don't skimp on your precision.

And the finished painting, "Moonlit Urn" (8x16):
