Dear Subscribers,

Greetings.

First order of business: I've heard from several people that my email from this address (not the newsletter, just a normal email) has ended up in their spam folder. So, if you'd been expecting some sort of response from me during the last several months, but didn't receive one and chalked it up to bad manners or baby-induced lethargy, that may not be the case (emphasis on may). It may have gone to your spam folder, perhaps with "contact" in the from field instead of my name. Boo.

As mentioned on Friday, I'm running a Holiday Charity Sale until the end of the year. 50% of proceeds goes to charity!!

My still-life class is returning in the new year. The Jan/Feb block of classes filled up immediately, but if you'd like to be placed on the waiting list for March, let me know.

New still life. If you're wondering when the pumpkins are going to stop, you're not the only one. And hey, a "normal" painting this time.

An often successful still life recipe for me has been warm and dark in foreground, lighter and cooler in background. A bit like aerial perspective. But I've been messing with the opposite of that relationship lately. In this painting I wanted to push it to the extreme: very warm in back, cool up front.

The setup:

First stage. It's a knife painting, but I usually at least use a brush for the block in. I decided to just use the knife for that this time. Kind of a dumb way to do it. I'd say only do it if you're willing to suffer the consequences.

And the finished painting, "Gold on Warm" (8x8):

The newsletter is on hiatus next week. So until December 1st, enjoy.
