Dear Subscribers,
Greetings!
Putting out some feelers. I'm considering doing a workshop in the Seattle area sometime in 2014. If you'd be interested in this, send me an email.
Two new paintings. One knife, one brush.
Firstly, more foil. Yes, I like foil.
I have decided that the knife is my preferred tool for foil.
I missed the first stages of this, but it was painted on the scraped out panel from two weeks ago.
The setup:
In reality the light is most intense on the left, closer to the source. But my focus will be with the foil and red apple on the right, and I still want the light to be coming from the left side, so I gotta intentionally devalue and desaturate the hell out of the left objects. If you're too literal, you're being controlled by your setup. Do you want to spend your precious time on this earth being manipulated by bossy fruits? Take control your own destiny. This just got silly. Luckily most of you probably just look at the pictures and skip the drivel. I'll know how many of you read this far into the paragraph by the number of unsubscribes.
Mid-stage:
See all that scritchy-scratch? The knife is so good for thick AND thin application.
Next stage:
And the finished painting, "Aluminum & Scarlet" (9x12):

Next painting, back to brush. I like to alternate.
The setup:
As soon as I put the dumbbell under the light, I knew it had painterly potential.
First stage:
Perspective. Loose but fairly precise.

And the finished painting, "Hex" (8x10):

That's a sweet object. It has good solid objectness. Pleasing shapes. I will paint it again.
More collector's photos over here on the Facebook page. And I'll be adding a few more this afternoon!
Until next week,
