Dear Subscribers,
Greetings!
I started a new still life. This will be a tighter painting, a rarity for me. Once in a while it happens, like when I painted "Cocoon" (larger image here). Still, tightness is relative, and I still don't go anywhere near as tight as many painters...So maybe I should say I'm creating the illusion of tightness. My favorite portion of a painting is in the beginning/middle stages, so it takes an extra something for me to dwindle near the end, creating tightness. I don't want to leave this territory completely unexplored so I'm forcing myself to do it, and the composition of this current painting reflects that theme. I guess I'll explain it more next week.
The setup:

First stage. Part of me really hesitates to show how sloppy I've been getting in block-in, because it goes against the method that I currently teach and that I was taught. This sloppy stuff is not a good way to do it when you're a student. Plus starting on a white panel, boo! I've been doing this disclaimer thing a lot lately.....

Next stage: (See? Now I gotta cover all that pesky white)

To Be Continued next week.......
