Dear Subscribers,

Greetings!

Firstly: The Newsletter will be ON HIATUS until it resumes on October 12th. If I sneak one in during that time it would be nice but I'm not counting on it.

Reminder for you all in the Bay Area, this is next Sunday:

Delicious - work inspired by food & drink
September 25th - October 20th, 2014
opening reception:  Sunday, September 28th, 1-6 pm

                                           "Freak"                               "Of This World"

Then on October 3rd is my Solo Show in Texas. We hope you can make it! By the way, you can read the American Art Collector article about my show here:

New painting.

The setup:

That's my dome. This one is from imagination. A Flrrbl painting. I was looking at all my Flrrblz and realized I've only depicted them either at rest or with wings fully deployed. I decided to show the in-between stage, with wing-covers/shells just starting to lift away from the dorsum, and the wings in the process of extending.

Stages:

Part knife, part brush.

(See that signature? I thought I was done.. but I had forgotten the green shell stripes)

And the finished painting, "Toward The Light" (8x10):

My Flrrblz are often met with puzzlement and curiosity. If you are a more recent subscriber, this visual history might be useful (click for big):

Abend Gallery in Denver (kindred of Gallery 1261) will be announcing a show in November that has a more contemporary edge to it. Should be exciting stuff. These three critters will debut there:

I'm now off to go teach back-to-back painting workshops in Virginia! Then after that maybe I'll see you in Texas at RS Hanna Gallery.

Until October 12th,
