Dear Subscribers,

Greetings!

Last week's scraped
painting was followed by a funky space: a full day of sketching still
life ideas, composing, and recomposing, ultimately to no avail. Those
days are frustrating, but bursts of creation usually follow soon after.
I'm learning to embrace the slog through mud. A trip to the thrift store
for objects and to the grocery store for produce helped bring the mojo
back:

New still life!

The setup:

First stage. The leaf and tangerine area will be the focus:

Fearing rapid wilt, I was sure to paint the leaf first. A good thing
too, cuz this soon happened:

And the finished painting, "Cabbage Leaf Sheltering A Tangerine"

And another new still life. Man, I just never get tired of still life. I
love it.

The setup:

First stage. The forward melon slice will be the focus. I thought it
would be interesting to make two similar groupings; each involving
melon, tangerine, and colored glass. With the slice from one paired with
the whole from the other:

Next stage. I decide to create a path of light to give flow to the
composition:

And the finished painting, "Slice On A Path From Orange To Orange"

I've still got blinders on for my Solo Show in July
 , but another event
this year is on the horizon. In September, my gallery RS Hanna Gallery
  is having a
show titled "Catch A Rising Star"
  (for the
gallery's emerging artists). It's gonna be a good one.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it.

Until next week,
